In association with our partners at the North Atlantic Salmon Fund UK, we are pleased to highlight a new award for salmon conservation in the United Kingdom – The Orri.

Created in honour of the late, legendary Icelandic environmentalist Orri Vigfússon – founder of NASF – The Orri will be awarded to fund British, direct action, community-based salmon conservation projects.

Featuring a prize of £10,000 – and campaign support to raise an additional £10,000 – the award aims to identify and promote scalable projects that can be implemented nationally, fostering a collaborative and innovative approach to salmon conservation in the UK.

By supporting effective local initiatives, The Orri seeks to inspire broader efforts and share best practices within the conservation community.

Acting as an incubator and promoter of innovative ideas, the aim is to accelerate positive change in local salmon conservation initiatives – focusing on scalable, replicable projects for significant national impact.

Entries close 17th October, and will be judged by a panel consisting of leading voices in salmon conservation, including; NASF UK and NASF Iceland, Conservation Fund, Natural History Consortium, Wye & Usk Foundation, ‘The Last Salmon’ podcast’s Jim Murray MBE, ‘Trout & Salmon‘ magazine’s Dani Strang, and our own Chief Conservation Officer Gordon Sim.
