The Alphonse Group of Atolls, a nature lover’s paradise, is one of the world’s most pristine, untouched Edens. The islands in the atolls enjoy an exquisite climate and miles of unblemished shorelines, lagoons and sea flats.
Alphonse Island is one of three in the group and sits aside St. François and Bijoutier Islands. All enjoy a perfect location in the Seychelles Outer Islands, in the very heart of the Indian Ocean. Although the accommodation is on Alphonse Island, the majority of the fly fishing is done around St. François Atoll.
What truly distinguishes Alphonse Island as one of the most outstanding fishing destinations in the world is the combination of stylish hotel accommodation alongside the opportunity to fish 3 different islands right on your doorstep.
Alphonse Island is the perfect location for both beginners and experienced anglers, and we’d recommend it all anglers heading to saltwater for the first time. It is the perfect introduction to this incredible way of fly fishing, and you’ll get to learn the ropes from some world-class guides. Once you have mastered the art of double hauling and casting heavier flies at bonefish, you will be offered the opportunity to catch the highly sought after giant trevally, milkfish and many more elite species of flats fish.
The Alphonse Group is one of the most famed saltwater fly fishing destinations in the Indian Ocean, with ten thousand acres of white sand flats provide easy wading and world-class fishing.
The atolls are home to huge populations of bonefish, three different types of triggerfish, barracuda, snapper, grouper, Indo-Pacific permit, parrotfish and eight species of trevally, including the infamous giant trevally.
The most challenging fish to catch, though, is the fabled milk fish, a turbo-charged algae eater growing to 40lbs.
This diversity gives anglers the opportunity to target a myriad of different species during their stay.
The guides on Alphonse are also first class – coming from all over the world with years of experience in saltwater guiding. Their knowledge of the waters that surround Alphonse is unmatched with strict safety protocols and hard earns qualifications in boatman ship; you could not be in better hands.
Alphonse Island boasts a single resort made up of Beach Bungalows, Beach Suites and spacious Beach Villas.
Built alongside the water’s edge, each accommodation enjoys spectacular ocean views.
A central dining and bar area lets you socialise alongside the sparkling pool and shoreline, with cuisine offering the very best of traditional Creole creations.
Food & Cuisine
The combination of organic harvest from the surrounding forest and private garden perfectly complements the bounty that the Indian Ocean offers daily. With no two meals ever presented the same, dining at Alphonse Island will not only stimulate the senses, but it will leave no doubt as to where you are finding yourself at that very moment.
Typically, anglers will take a packed lunch with them each day when fishing on the flats, enduring no time wasted, and you can make the most of your time on the water

Dry bags and rain jackets are key when travelling to the Seychelles. Your full-day will be spent out on the river on a flats skiff, the weather can get wet, and waves can splash the boat. Keeping camera equipment, fly boxes, and your lunch dry is a crucial part of the day. The Seychelles sun is brutal; covering as much skin as possible is key. Our Marauder Long Sleeve Tech Shirt is ideal for UV protection.
Water-resistant fly boxes are a key element when fishing saltwater. The salt rusts hooks very quickly; keeping them dry will prevent having rusty hooks.
