In the latest episode of Wild Fish. Wild Places. with Emilie Björkman, Emilie returns to her homeland, fishing through the long, dark nights in search of Sweden’s giant migratory trout.
With the midnight sun of summer now long-gone, Emilie must cast large flies and keep a low profile, even under the cover of darkness. Fishing with heightened senses becomes essential as she joins friend and scientist Gunnar Öhlund in pursuit of these elusive roamers.
Along the way, she learns how Sweden’s extensive hydropower development has affected the migration of these unique fish populations. Emilie is also hosted by Mattias Oskarsson in Ammarnäs, an area renowned for supporting one of Europe’s finest trout populations. Here, she discovers how fly fishing has become vital to the local economy and why its future must be safeguarded.
All-round fly fisher Jacob Eliasson joins the journey as the team heads north for intense sport beneath the northern lights, continuing the search for these mythical trout.
