Our award winning LOOP Opti series fly rods utilises the classic medium fast LOOP action designed for fly presentation while retaining responsive sensory feedback from the blank. During the development stage our design team equally placed a large amount of focus on how the rod performed once the fish was being played. The result is a blank that complements the casting cycle but also provides the angler with a effective fly rod for defusing the powerful lunges of a hard fighting fish.

OPTI STREAM

On the Opti Stream we have prioritised mobility. These rods have the flexibility to cope with all casting elements. Using the underhand-cast you can place the line were you want it without any delay. The Opti Stream rods handles the situation when you need an accurate presentation. (Models: 9’0″ #5)

OPTI POWER SPEY

The Opti Power Spey rods work equally well with short heads (typical for Underhand and Skagit casting) or longer spey lines. The tip recovery is extremely precise and the butt power never gives up. The models feature the Balanced Reel Seat, which is 50% longer than traditional reel seats and allows the angler to choose position of the reel, balancing the rod against the weight of the line and the casting technique. Built with the durable Cross Weave technology. (Models: 13’0″ #9 / 14’0″ #9 / 15’0″ #10)

Additional Information

X-GRIP

Think about playing tennis with a round cork grip. You would have to squeeze the handle with twice as much power and it would still rotate in the hand – especially when factors such as sweat and sunscreen are in play. A round handle would also make it impossible to render a true stroke or ”track” the path of the racket. Why should a fly rod be different? The X-Grip handle makes tracking the stroke of the cast or moving the rod in a straight path for a controlled loop much easier. This results in longer casts with higher precision. Less pressure on a grip that sits naturally in your hand will use less muscle. You will easily enjoy more power and accuracy with less effort, exponentially increasing your chances to catch more fish. Simple. Logical. Swedish.

BALANCED REELS SEAT

The original concept for the reel seat was to be able to balance the reel to the rod correctly without having to add weight to the reel or buy a specific reel to match the rod just purchased. It was designed to reduce fatigue to the angler when fishing especially when the cast has been carried out and the line is swinging around the pool. The balanced outfit allows the angler to hold the rod more comfortably and loosely reducing any pressure to the lower part of the back and concentrate on the fishing.

Advantages:

  1. Reduced fatigue to angler.
  2. Correctly balanced rod.
  3. More consistent when casting due to the correct balanced outfit.
  4. Multiple reel application reels of different weights and sizes.
  5. Being able to alter the rod’s action to suit the individuals preference.

ROD TEMPO ACTION

ROD TEMPO ACTION:

Each LOOP fly rod has a specific rod tempo classification to denote the flex curve/action of the blank during the casting stroke. The particular classification (Medium, Medium/Fast and Fast) informs our customers where power is supplied as biomechanical input from the hand/hands relates to energy transfer output through the rod and in to the fly line. In simplified terms, the Medium, Medium/Fast and Fast tempo designations indicate the blank’s curve structure and flexibility during the casting cycle.

M – MEDIUM TEMPO ACTION:

Our medium tempo rods have a full flex action designed for slow, stealthy and deliberate presentations with long, delicate leaders and small flies. This slower tempo is also most amenable to freshwater environments and requires long, deep power application through the blank to optimise this particular rod action. This action is ideal for short to medium casting scenarios and offers a high degree of sensory feedback from the blank both during the casting cycle and when playing fish.

Casting Ability Level: Novice, Intermediate, Good, Expert

M/F – MEDIUM/FAST TEMPO ACTION:

This classic LOOP rod action offers the fly fisher more structure and backbone in the lower sections of the rod. This allows a broad range of angling application due to the perfect balance of casting performance and fish fighting ability. When longer casts are required, the angler can call upon more power reserve in the rod’s blank compared to the medium action tempo, resulting in greater water coverage for minimal biomechanical output effort.

Casting Ability Level: Novice, Intermediate, Good, Expert

F – FAST TEMPO ACTION:

Our fast tempo rods are designed for more direct-to-target power application with minimal blank deflection when the rod is brought to a stop on the forward delivery. This transfers forward energy through the rod in to tight, aerodynamic loops and even in challenging wind conditions, longer casting distances can be achieved with ease.  With less flex in the blank compared to the Medium and Medium/Fast tempos, this action does however, require more finely tuned and accurate timing than the slower flex tempos to maximise performance of this classification of flex pattern.

LINE RECOMMENDATION

Optimizing the maximum potential of any fly rod comes down to choosing the correct fly line for both climatic and water conditions as well as the anglers chosen casting discipline and casting ability. We generally recommend matching the designated line weight with the designated rod weight as the best overall performance choice. However, all LOOP rods are designed to factor in a margin of tolerance to allow the fly fisher to increase or decrease the line weight depending on the particular fishing situation.
