The Classic is equipped with ventilated sideplates in the new 2011 version. Beneath the stunning looks of the new Classic fly reel is the ultra-modern Power Matrix Drag System. This monstrous braking system will subdue the strongest of fish in the harshest conditions. The completely waterproof drag system benefits from a pronounced 'click' that signals “fish on” through your ears into your every vein. The Classic is completely corrosion resistant and benefits from a new ergonomic handle design with integrated leader retainer on the counterbalance. Available in either left or right-hand wind, each reel is individually numbered and presented in a handcrafted leather case. With its old world ‘classic' looks and ultra-modern braking power, you will get the best of both worlds. We call it tradition with an attitude. Please note: Model 46 does not have the Power matrix drag system. It comes with a very light and smooth adjustable click and drag which functions in both directions. This function is designed only to prevent spool overrun.

GoFishing review on Classic 1013 T&S tester Allan Shephard writes: Like Marmite, this reel will polarise opinion. I think I am correct in saying the inspiration comes from designs like the Hardy Cascapedia and Bogdan reels. Line capacity is very good and build quality is excellent. The leather case is beautifully made and I am sure will add to the overall package. I find the reel heavy and, like the Loop Megaloop, it has a limited range of drag settings. It is not possible to put real pressure on the spool. I do not like the noise the reel makes and find the thin metal handle fiddly. This is the only reel tested that has a concealed spool rim so it is not possible to manually brake when playing fish. Loop recommend that you do not take the reel apart and no spare spools are available. It is also not possible to change between left- and right-hand wind. If grit enters the cage, it is very difficult to clean. Charming, but not as practical as others. |

User "salmonguy-ns" review:
"I just purchased the Loop Classic 10-13. It is a great fit for my 15' Bruce and Walker. I cannot say enough good things about this reel. It is a bit heavy, but that is what I wanted to balance the B&W. I personally love the sound, but it might not be for everyone. I have had no issues at all with the handle. I agree that one cannot manually add extra drag, but the drag on this reel needs no help. While it will probably not protect a very light tippet, it is not likely that one would be using a light tippet on a 10-13 wt rod. I use 6lb and 8lb tippets on a regular basis and find no trouble with this reel at all. It is expensive, but it also very high quality. It also has excellent backing capacity and I believe it can be used as well with larger game fish like tarpon. Highly recommend." |
