INSTRUKTÖRER

Glenda Powell

"To see a fisherman perfectly mastering a single or double-handed fly rod is rare enough.  When the fisherman turns out to be a woman, we are in the realm of the exceptional. "

Glenda left her home in Northern Ireland at 18 for Scotland saying she was going to earn her living from fishing for the rest of her life!
She worked there for 3 years as gillie & stalker, & qualified as a fly-casting instructor at the tender age of 20. Whilst there, she fished on the Scottish Ladies International Fly-fishing team.

She returned to Northern Ireland in 1996 to work as a casting instructor, writer & sales rep for a fly-fishing tackle distributor and also to manage the Irish Ladies International Fly-fishing team.
She went to Blackwater Lodge Salmon Fishery in 1998 to write an article and fell in love with the river and proprietor Ian, to whom she's now married.

She is now one the highest qualified female instructors in the world with the
Association of Professional Game Angling Instructors (Ireland) accreditation in both Salmon and Trout disciplines, and was crowned Emerald World Masters Ladies Salmon Distance Champion in September 2006. She is in great demand as a casting demonstrator at angling fairs and exhibitions.

Since 1998, Glenda guides and instructs all year round on the world-famous Blackwater Lodge Salmon Fishery in Southern Ireland, especially in the long salmon season that runs from February to September. The Lodge is situated in Southern Ireland only one hour away from Cork. The fishery comprises about 14 miles of prime fishing spread over approximately 40 miles of the river starting only 3 miles above the tidal limit.

Glenda has acquired an awesome reputation not only as a superb caster, but also as one with that rare ability to be able to teach others in a relaxed and easy way from beginner level to the highest standard of all forms of spey-casts.

She is also very involved in programmes to introduce newcomers to angling, both with Ladies Days and courses organised with fishing clubs to bring youngsters on board, and is developing an educational programme
for schools which includes a drama for primary schools based on the life cycle of the salmon in the river.
